Gardiner Youth Hockey is very excited and proud that their skating members want to help out on the ice. We have had a lot of interest and that is great! However, due to the nature of the program, we need to ensure there are some guidelines in place. If you are interested in Student Coaching, please follow the following procedure BEFORE you get on the ice:
1. In order to stay aligned with USA Hockey Guidelines for Student Coaches. For information on these rules, visit USA Hockey's Student Coaching Page here: http://www.usahockey.com/page/show/893015-student-coaches . GYH requires all Student Coaches must be between the ages of 13-17. No student is allowed to Coach at their same skating level (i.e. Bantam student coaches may assist with PeeWees, but not Bantams). Priority is given to High School Skaters for Community Service purposes.
2. You will see a link below for a form that MUST be completely filled out and given to either the President or to the Coach of the level you would like to assist with.
3. It will be then at the Coaches discretion as to when he will ask you to assist in the coaching for the practice. No Student Coach will be allowed on the ice without the invitation from the Head Coach running the practice. No exceptions. Please understand that the decision to select a student coach or coaches (or not) for a particular practice will be based on the skills that are going to be worked on for that practice and the type of assistance that is needed.
4. Student coaching is a great opportunity to grow as a player and a leader. The opportunity comes with significant responsibility. Student coaches are expected to follow the Head Coach's practice plans and instructions and conduct themselves professionally on the ice. Failure to do so will result in dismissal.
If we have multiple coaches for various age groups, we will work to make use of the Student Coaching Calendar below. If you see your name posted for a particular day that you know you will not be able to attend, please contact the Head Coach or Christian Hebert (Coaching Coordinator) as soon as possible.
Again, we want to make this as easy as possible for everyone, but also stick with the Guidelines established by USA Hockey. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me either by email or by phone (207-740-6585). Christian Hebert would also be happy to answer any questions you may have regarding Student Coaching. Keeping everyone involved is what strengthens our Organization, and I truly appreciate the eagerness with which the kids want to help.
